My own perspective on LJ (like a lot of the Minnesota fans who do LJ) is that I started with amateur press associations, in whose pages there was a *lot* of open communication and discussion; I could write a one-page essay and any of half a dozen other people would do half-page essays back and the topic would stay in discussion for a few mailings. Here in LJ, the usual response is just a few lines. I freely admit to being part of the problem, not part of the solution, but I don't mind knowing that you'd rather hear a bit more than just one line here and there, as it will affect my responses to your posts (and affect them for the better). So I'll talk to you in more detail soon.
While I don't always comment on your posts, I do read them pretty faithfully. And given my spotty posting record, I'd feel uncomfortable in asking others to post more (although I'm very appreciative when they do).
When I used the word unresponsive, I had fallen into computer jargon. I was referring to the fact that today, when I (for example) try to look at my friends posts, am spending an inordinate amount of time looking at pages that aren't loading very quickly (if at all).
I clearly need to be more careful about unconsciously lapsing into jargon.
yeah
