Perhaps someone in Wisconsin, or a security expert can weigh in on this.

We recently received a letter from "City of Superior, Citation Processing Center, PO Box 3214, Milwaukee, WI".

The letter asserts we committed a parking violation in Superior, WI, on February 19, 2015, at 0656 am.

Overlooking the fact that neither I nor my automobile have ever been in Superior, WI, I know for a fact that at that time of day/day of the week I would be getting ready to walk my daughter to school.

So - does Superior really use a mail drop in Milwaukee to attempt to collect fines for parking tickets?

I think it's a scam, given this is what came up when I googled Superior, WI and parking ticket:

It is more likely a transcription error on the part of the officer writing the ticket.

I'd try to contest it. Not sure how to do go about it with Wisconsin.

Transcription error would normally be my first guess, except:

The return address is a PO Box in Michigan, which appears to be for a company that works mostly with collection agencies, and when [livejournal.com profile] mizzlaurajean tried to talk with them, they were a) exceedingly unhelpful, and b) insisted that they needed a copy of the registration.

The mailing appears to be carefully constructed to appear to be from the city of Superior without actually coming out and explicitly saying it's from the city of Superior.

There's a bolded paragraph that could best be described as attempting to be alarming.

(I'll admit to being totally unclear why the city of Superior would have office functions in Milwaukee).

Does this help any?

https://www.dspayments.com/Superior

This Web page starts out with the following:

> Parking Citation Information for Superior, Wisconsin
> Search by citation number or license plate and state/province:
>
> Please provide the citation number or the license plate number and the
> State/Province. Make sure the information is exactly how it appears on the
> citation, and press 'Search' to continue.

Supposedly, you can pay a parking ticket at this Web site so perhaps you can find out if the parking ticket citation is real by seeing if it shows up there.
