According to the television schedule in today's Strib, channel 2 is showing something called Lost to Austen starting around 10:20pm. The description is "Secret door strands Jane Austen buff in the beginning of Pride and Prejudice.

It's probably "Lost in Austen"

And it's "Jane Austen buff", not "Jane Austen (in the) buff".

It's also not very good.

You're correct, it is Lost in Austen. I misread it.

Thanks for the warning. I was about to have my DVR record it, but not if it's not worth it.

The fundamental flaw is that they are retelling Pride and Prejudice without Elizabeth Bennet. It's a clever idea, but they take out the best character and replace her with someone lesser.

I'd love to see the other side of the story, where Elizabeth Bennet makes a life for herself in modern-age London... but that's not the one they filmed.

Have you read any of the Temeraire novels by Naomi Novik? If so, there's a fanfic story from Yuletide that I can recommend highly, but it won't work if you haven't.

No, I have not.

Sadly, I've been too busy lately for recreational reading... even my "to skim" pile is over two feet high.

(Going to take a day soon though and read the last book of the mega Theodore Sturgeon collection though.)

I would call it "uneven" moreso than "not very good". Some of it is definitely annoying, but by the end, it has some redeeming qualities. It's a fish-out-of-water story, about a woman who's been re-reading Pride and Prejudice for years, but doesn't really know a thing about life in the early 19th Century. When she get's landed in Lizzie Bennett's place she goes blundering through the action trying to keep in on plot for Lizzie's return, and in the process makes a right hash out of several of the original plot twists. Things that make it worth watching are the lovely turn by Hugh Bonneville as Mr. Bennett, and the eventual rehabilitation of George Wickham as a character. If all you're expending is DVR time, it's certainly worth recording to decide for yourself if you like it.

I thought it was good fun; makes more sense if you believe that the main character is addicted to DVDs of damp Colin Firth rather than the actual book. It's fluff rather than Great TV. And I too want to see the other half of the story.
