Shades of George W. Bush...
Aug. 23rd, 2009 07:35 pm...and his staged and orchestrated "public meetings".
So, after getting the e-mail about the tele-talk on health care reform from Senator Klobuchar's office, I went ahead and signed up. While it didn't really sound at all promising, I felt (and still feel) like Senator Klobuchar is the one senator/congressman who need the strongest push in the correct direction. I was informed that I'd get a reminder telephone call on Friday, and that I would be called Sunday at 1900 to join the tele-talk.
The reminder call came on Saturday. No big deal, it's just a reminder call.
Tonight, I got back to the house just before 1900. None of the three people in the house were on the phone, and no calls had been received before I arrived. Shortly (very shortly) after 1900, I got a call from "Out of Area". I answered, and got to listen to a recorded message from Senator Klobuchar, telling me that she'd held a tele-talk at 1900, and she was sorry that I hadn't answered the telephone and joined the tele-talk.
"Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately ascribed to incompetence."
I'm hoping that I'll get a plausible explanation for being blown off after I jumped through the hoops to sign up for this thing.
But absent such an explanation, I'm going to assume it was all a big charade, intended to give the Senator's constituents the feeling that she wants their input, while in reality she continues to listen only to the fat cats and corporate interests that pay the fiddler and call the tune she dances to.

Date: 2009-08-24 04:35 pm (UTC)I gotta say, the experience makes me somewhat dubious of the claim that 10,000 people were dialed into the tele-townhall...
