Writers who reference California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly). Which is pretty much on a par with referencing the University of California (although that is a de facto reference to Berkeley).

There is more than one Cal Poly, and references to Cal Poly without referencing the city Cal Poly is in are pretty much useless. Cal Poly Pomona is not at all the same as Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

As an annoyance, it's right up there with people who refer to Arizona State University in Tucson, or the University of Arizona in Tempe.

Or, for the Right Coasters, making a reference to a specific incident that happened at SUNY.
