The subject pretty much says it all.

I spent Saturday acquiring materials for PR-1 and printing PR-1 on the MnStf copy-printer.

Sunday, I took the PR-1s over to Dean and Laura's house, and watched him turn each sheet of paper into four postcards. A truly impressive sight, involving a truly impressive piece of machinery. Took a very short time to turn three reams of paper into 2800 postcards.

And then it was off to the Minicon open meeting/mailing party, where the postcards had labels and stamps affixed. Fred took a group photograph of the concom )oh, alright - Fred took a whole lot of group photos of the concom). After the work was done, most everyone left, the exceptions being Beth Friedman (newly announced co-head of programming), Rachael Lininger (GoH Liaison for Sue Mason), Laura Fish (co-chair), Larry Sanderson (co-chair/power behind the throne), and myself. We spent some time talking, and then Beth left. The four of us then spent a considerable amount of time plotting/documenting what needed to be done in the months ahead. Around 8:30PM Laura mentioned that she hadn't eaten all day, and that situation needed to be rectified quickly. After the usual bout of fannish decisiveness about what/where to eat, we headed out to a Vietnamese restaurant. Which was closed. So we went down the street to El Mariachi, and snuck in before they closed and locked the doors. After a quick dinner, we returned to Larry's house, where he proceeded to scan in the few (five) baby pictures provided by members of the concom. He also showed us the pictures he had recently shot, but resisted our helpful suggestions about which pictures should be deleted.

So I didn't do some things I should have done this weekend. But I had fun. And there's always tomorrow (well, today) to do the things I should have done this weekend.

You know, I wondered a little about what you didn't say about Saturday. You went to a party - and drank more than usual (the latter from a previous post, the former from photos at Larry Sanderson's site.)

I know you accomplished major things for Minicon, but I had the feeling you had a good time at Karen's party as well, but you haven't said anything about it. Do you not want to talk about the joy of what happens?

(I've been pondering this since I first read your entry, and aren't sure I've pointed at my disquiet correctly. But I do wonder.)

I'm sure you've pointed at your disquiet correctly.

I didn't have anything I wanted to post about the party in my livejournal; I still don't. The party gave me an excuse for drinking more than I usually do, and drinking is pretty clearly not an answer for me. I enjoyed the party, I enjoyed the company, and I probably said and did several foolish things that I would not have said and done if I had kept my alcohol consumption to its normal levels.

in vino veritas

Unless something you said or did had a lasting bad effect, I wouldn't worry about it. A bunch of your friends are probably saying, "Gee, I don't usually see David drink that much," and chuckling. People don't generally take lasting offense at things said when one has been drinking unless one behaves really, really badly.

Your friends were probably more happy to see you loosen up a bit on some of what you now regret than they were upset by it. You don't have to revel in it, but it's probably not worth a lot of energy in chagrin, either, unless it was illegal.

I know I tend to try to control my own reactions and actions - maybe over control - so when I drink and the inhibitions get a little relaxed I say and do things I normally wouldn't. But I doubt many of those actions are overwhelming to my friends (well, I can recall I few that were overwhelming to recall later *grin*.) Releasing yourself from a requirement that *you* control yourself may not be comfortable to remember, but it may be useful for yourself. Even good.

It was hot. I don't remember you taking your clothes off and jumping around the sprinkler or dashing nekkid around the backyard. You never got into fisticuffs nor spent an hour throwing up in the bathroom. I don't think anybody noticed your drinking. Although, I was beginning to wonder when I got so many photographs of you without a can, hand or bottle in front of your face. Parties are for doing and saying foolish things. They sound witty at the time. Maybe you wuz at an 'other' party than I was.

Which raises the obvious question of how much you had to drink at the party, if you don't even remember those episodes...
