Minicon Ate My Weekend
Jun. 24th, 2002 12:45 amThe subject pretty much says it all.
I spent Saturday acquiring materials for PR-1 and printing PR-1 on the MnStf copy-printer.
Sunday, I took the PR-1s over to Dean and Laura's house, and watched him turn each sheet of paper into four postcards. A truly impressive sight, involving a truly impressive piece of machinery. Took a very short time to turn three reams of paper into 2800 postcards.
And then it was off to the Minicon open meeting/mailing party, where the postcards had labels and stamps affixed. Fred took a group photograph of the concom )oh, alright - Fred took a whole lot of group photos of the concom). After the work was done, most everyone left, the exceptions being Beth Friedman (newly announced co-head of programming), Rachael Lininger (GoH Liaison for Sue Mason), Laura Fish (co-chair), Larry Sanderson (co-chair/power behind the throne), and myself. We spent some time talking, and then Beth left. The four of us then spent a considerable amount of time plotting/documenting what needed to be done in the months ahead. Around 8:30PM Laura mentioned that she hadn't eaten all day, and that situation needed to be rectified quickly. After the usual bout of fannish decisiveness about what/where to eat, we headed out to a Vietnamese restaurant. Which was closed. So we went down the street to El Mariachi, and snuck in before they closed and locked the doors. After a quick dinner, we returned to Larry's house, where he proceeded to scan in the few (five) baby pictures provided by members of the concom. He also showed us the pictures he had recently shot, but resisted our helpful suggestions about which pictures should be deleted.
So I didn't do some things I should have done this weekend. But I had fun. And there's always tomorrow (well, today) to do the things I should have done this weekend.

Date: 2002-06-24 04:20 pm (UTC)I know you accomplished major things for Minicon, but I had the feeling you had a good time at Karen's party as well, but you haven't said anything about it. Do you not want to talk about the joy of what happens?
(I've been pondering this since I first read your entry, and aren't sure I've pointed at my disquiet correctly. But I do wonder.)

Date: 2002-06-24 08:49 pm (UTC)I didn't have anything I wanted to post about the party in my livejournal; I still don't. The party gave me an excuse for drinking more than I usually do, and drinking is pretty clearly not an answer for me. I enjoyed the party, I enjoyed the company, and I probably said and did several foolish things that I would not have said and done if I had kept my alcohol consumption to its normal levels.
in vino veritas
