New Development Proposal In The Neighborhood

A local developer wants to develop on the Rex Hardware site.

I'm not, at the moment, favorably disposed to the proposal - they're proposing a large chain on the ground floor, and they came in with drawings of a four story building, which halfway through the meeting turned into a proposal for five stories on the corner of 26th St. and Lyndale Ave.

Developer wants a more "modern" look - thinks there's already too much brick and stone on Lyndale.

Proposal has two levels of underground parking, entered from Lyndale Ave. You know the cluster-fuck that results from people turning left across Lyndale to enter the Wedge parking lot? Well, count on the cluster-fuck getting duplicated between 26th and 27th.

In the Small World, Isn't It category - we were talking to one of the people at the meeting after the meeting, and he turns out to teach history at the U. In fact, he turns out to be acquainted with the other history professor we know. He mentioned buttonfish in passing, and we responded that today was buttonfish's birthday.
