With the news on the Antarctic ice shelf, I went back and looked at the list of cities affected by a ten-foot Sea Level Rise. The list included Mountain View, CA.

Perhaps it would be wise if pieces of Silicon Valley set up outposts in a location likely to remain dryer (albeit colder)?

I always think of Mountain View as being inland, since it is kind of between two mountain ranges. I always forget how far south The Bay reaches. I guess the bay will be getting a lot bigger. I wonder if San Francisco will eventually become an archipelago.

If you think of Mountain View as being inland, what's your perspective on Stockton? It's listed as "going under" before Mountain View.

Which is why I looked at the total list of US cities at risk - if Stockton (roughly half-way between the coast and the Sierra Nevadas) made the Top 10, there were bound to be other cities on the list that I would find surprising. Like Mountain View...

Where did you find this list? I'd love to see it in map form - sounds like they envision the Central Valley turning into an inland sea.

I'll bet Minneapolis and St. Paul aren't on the list.

i *think* I found it at http://www.climatecentral.org/news/u.s.-with-10-feet-of-sea-level-rise-17428 (after being sick Wednesday and Thursday, I'm not entirely sure).

If you expand the list of the top 10 cities affected, you get the entire list.

I'll bet Minneapolis and St. Paul aren't on the list.

Perhaps that accounts for my parenthetical "albeit colder" in my original post? :-)
