I sent the following to Councilperson Bender:

"While I'm sure that the city regards it as "business as usual", it is unconscionable/unacceptable that the city dumped 7 cubic yards of snow at the end of my driveway (preventing me from going to work) and expects me to do the work of clearing it off. It's especially unacceptable when the alley exit next to my driveway had absolutely no snow deposited. It's clear that city crews could work in a way that didn't impose a burden on residents/taxpayers, and that they choose not to."

I definitely mean every word. They'll charge me for not clearing my sidewalks, why do they get a free pass for being lazy and dumping snow from the street on my driveway, trapping me inside my garage?

Edited:

And to add insult to injury, just after I got out of my second shower of the day, I received a call from [livejournal.com profile] mizzlaurajean - she was going with A to Babushka Betty's and she couldn't get out of the driveway. The city had made another pass, and once again deposited a pile of snow in front of our driveway (leaving the mouth of the adjacent alley clear).

I realize that they shouldn't do it, but since I don't think they'll stop, what would happen if you put up some sort of barrier before they plowed? Would that help?

The only barrier they seem to acknowledge is cars that haven't been moved. I suppose if I had an unregistered junker I didn't care about, I could park it in a useful spot and hope it didn't get towed until after they had plowed.

I'm pretty sure anything we put up would not be legal as it would have to be on the blvd which is city property.

They did the same thing up and down my block the storm before this last one. We've all been shoveling the plow ridge they leave since they invented snow plowing, but this seems to be a new tactic, shoving huge piles into the edges of our driveway entrances. I had piles 6'wide x 6'long x 4' high on both sides to deal with, and it was too frozen and chunky to use my snowblower on. My old coal shovel worked fine, but there's not much of anywhere left to toss it. It's not even March yet.
