Movie Night

We went out and saw a movie a couple of weeks back - The Kids Arre All Right, at the Uptown.

I liked the movie a lot - more than [livejournal.com profile] mizzlaurajean will admit to. But it's the first time I've been in the Uptown in a long time, and it hasn't changed a bit. Since the long time is probably measured in decades, the unchanging nature is Not A Good Thing. Basically, it's a dump. Which is unfortunate, as it certainly seems like it could be something nice with not too large of an investment. And at the prices they're charging for admission, one would think they have money to invest...

I heard at some point that the Uptown is kept afloat by Lagoon, and that heating and cooling costs are crazy due to the building's age. While it would be sad to lose a classic theatre, it really could use some work.

Just went out to the Plaza Maplewood. It's falling apart. But then, tickets are only $2.00.

I'm glad we live walking distance to the Riverview. Seem like others need to study their success.
