At least as long as I didn't think *too* hard about the fallout....

Many, many years ago, just a couple of years after I started PROmote Communications, [livejournal.com profile] galacticvoyeur noticed a "space for rent" sign on a strip mall-style office building. "Your business is growing," he said. "You could have your office there."

Reluctant though I was to add rent to my business expenses, the real reason I had absolutely no interest in the place is that I would have lost the truly lovely fantasy that sustained me through many annoying times in my third-floor attic office. I visualized throwing my computer out the window with enough force that it cleared the porch roof and shattered on the sidewalk below so many times that I can still feel the satisfaction 4+ years after I moved out of the place. The monitor, the box, the printer, whatever it was that wasn't working for shit at the moment. For variety, or when I was really tired and knew that I didn't have the throwing force to clear the roof, I'd wonder whether it would bounce or tumble off the porch roof, or just thunk there. A one-story drop wasn't enough -- I wanted the annoying equipment to fly and/or plummet to its ultimate demise for a long time.

There's no obvious similar fantasy here at Toad Woods. It's the biggest drawback to working on the first floor, just as I imagined it would be if I'd rented that office space. Throwing the equipment into the pond would have similar results on its performance, but it's missing that satisfying smash and disintegration that comes from landing hard on a concrete surface.

"Take a sledge hammer to a computer" could be a real money-maker at a fund raising event. Or a good game at a company picnic. So long as there weren't toxicity issues involved, that is.

Thanks for the link.

I found the video to be somewhat disturbing.
Throwing things at your fellow co-workers is just juvenile.
You should just shoot them with rubber bands instead ....

Yes and yet sometimes that's exactly what you want to do is throw heavy damaging things at them.

Hmmm.
I suspect that my message wasn't taken as factitously as I had intended.

My wife has not had the pleasure of seeing the forest of rubber bands hanging from the ceiling above your cube, so missing the irony is understandable..
