Tomorrow will be the last day of business for Betsy's Back Porch.

The coffee shop will be holding a garage sale of furnishings, etc. from 1600 to 1900 tomorrow (Sunday, July 16).

Oh sad! I've gone by there a few times since the construction started. I like that place a lot ; darnit. I also go there when I have to make late afternoon post office runs since that one is/has been open a bit later then other branches. darn.I don't like to see little local shops close up.

Damn, damn, damn.

They're way out of my way now, but I loved their ginger cremes.

That's sad.

Do you know that it was the reduction in traffic due to the I-35W exit closing, or are you just guessing? (Not that it isn't the obvious reason.)

When I worked for the Embers, which at the time was an empire of 26 wholly owned restaurants, I believe they had a lawsuit against the city or state whenever they suffered from loss of business due to road construction. I was told that "everyone does this" and that it was a standard part of doing business.

And I will be sad to lose Betsy's, too.

The sign on the door indicated that they thought road construction was cause of the 40% reduction in their business.

Were they ever successful? That's the real question.

If the they above is referring to Betsy's, I'm not sure how I or anyone else would ever know without taking a look at their books. The (long) notice on their door said business was off 40% since construction started, and that they'd tried to scrape through as long as they could throughout the summer (this is all from memory, so it might not be entirely accurate).

Sorry. My question was about the Embers' lawsuits.

I think they were successful in recouping money from the government for lost income, yes.

Funny, in a way. I'll be posting some interesting tidbits about places Borderlands (and members thereof) has played and how many have closed, if I ever get my memory working.

Sorry to hear-it sounded like a nice place.
