I Guess I'm Giving Up
Nov. 7th, 2007 01:04 pmToday, I called the Strib and, in addition to stopping delivery on Friday and Saturday, changed my subscription to Sunday only.
Since the Strib got bought out and went through its downsizing, they've stopped printing news. They seem to be real big on the Executive Summary style of rewrite of stories picked up from the wire services or one of the few remaining real newspapers. Which means that there isn't any real meat or information left in the newspaper. They have upped their quotient of "local" stories, most of which are vacuous and content-free. And that phrase (vacuous and content free) now accurately describes most of the contents of the opinion/editorial page.
I subscribe to a newspaper for news. There doesn't appear to any news left in the Strib. I'm keeping the Sunday subscription because it contains the only useful feature content, as well as ads that we check out regularly.
