I'm not doing a very good job staying current in this journal.

We had lunch scheduled with two of the former members of our department who took early retirement at the end of last year. Lunch was scheduled for 11:30am; I was supposed to drop Joyce off at the airport at 1:00pm (which implied a 12:30 PM departure from work with Joyce). I did the usual "run through the schedule in my head" bit, and decided I could go to lunch only if I didn't eat. So that's what I did, mostly. It was good to see Gene and Linda, although I really didn't have enough time to talk with them.
And then it was back to work and try to find Joyce. Eventually we hooked up, and I got her to the airport slightly later than planned.
Friday was just work. I called Polonia and suggested we should see Lilo & Stitch; she was depressed and declined. So I made a quick trip to Joyce's house to put out fresh food for Popcorn (who I didn't see) and Rumpleteaser (who I did see).
I headed in the general direction of the theater in Eagan, and decided I'd try to get some enzyme solution for my contact lenses (I'd been out of solution for some time now). Several stores later, I had enzyme solution, and it was too late for the movie. So I headed home, with the idea that I'd make an early evening of it so I'd be rested for the Run for the Roses on Saturday morning.

I got up early on Saturday (once at 5:00 am, when the alarm went off; and again at 5:30am, when I got up). I made it to Roseville by 7:20am; parked, and picked up my bib and t-shirt. It was very hot and muggy on Saturday, and there was an air quality alert in force - something about Arizona and Colorado shipping the smoke from their forest fires to Minnesota. I wasn't really prepared for the run, and the conditions made it worse. I finished in 57:15, and headed to the health club for my sauna/jacuzzi award. And then home.

I'd had plans for the time between the Run for the Roses and the MnStf meeting. It turns out there were other plans for my time that trumped my plans. I ended up dragging hoses around to various water outlets at the condo complex, and found out which outlets had pressure, and which didn't. And dragging various pieces of hose out of the storage shed, and finding which pieces were usable, and which weren't. And putting all the hoses back when we were done. At some point during the festivities, I took off my shirt and continued working shirtless. This turned out to be not a good idea.

Eventually, everything was put back where it belonged, and I headed off to do a quick bit of grocery shopping.

When I finished with that, it was off to MnStf - about an hour later than I'd planned. This meant that I missed the business meeting - darn!!

The MnStf meeting was great fun, in spite of the weather. Laura had purchased balloons, and she had a hose, and one thing led to another, and several of us ended up being all wet. Literally. Geri came by with her new automobile (a Toyota Matrix), which she showed off to the assembled multitudes. After inspecting the features of her new car, we suggested that it should be christened "Geri's Thrill Ride". Larry took (and posted somewhere) pictures that might give one an idea of why we suggested the name "Geri's Thrill Ride" for her new car. I believe we still have to come up with a safeword for her new car.
After we finished checking out Geri's new car, we got to check out Shaun's new car - which was a police car in a previous life. This fact prompted our host to recall that she owned a pair of handcuffs, and wouldn't it be fun to have picture of handcuffed fans posed with the former police car. Larry has pictures of that, as well.

Eventually, the mosquitoes drove me inside. I had to make a "quick" trip to the Post Office before midnight (don't ask). After I returned, there was talking, and I was given a couple of lessons in how to play cribbage. I left around 2:30 Sunday morning. I thought it was a pretty good meeting.

I got up around 11:00 am and putzed around. Eventually Polonia returned from tending to Vista, and we went to get a newspaper and lunch. After, I headed out to the airport to pick up Joyce (returning from MidWestcon). I got her to her car, returned home and changed clothes, and headed out Lake Calhoun for the next installment of the MnStf Walking and Cherry-Picking Society. Met Laura, Rachael, and Jeff there. We made one circuit of the lake - it wasn't too crowded, and the heat/humidity wasn't too oppressive. Jeff went to get real food, the rest of us decamped to Sebastian Joe's. After consuming our rewards for exercising, we scoped out the location for the next walk (Lake Harriet, Wednesday, 6:00pm), and then headed home.
