Not a very productive weekend.

It started well, with a delicious dinner chez [livejournal.com profile] minnehaha Thursday night.

Friday was just another day at work. It's becoming more and more clear that the lack of actual design is resulting in a dismaying collection of kludges in an attempt to get something that kind of works. Quite a number of inadequacies in the underlying design of Linux aren't helping matters. I had an extensive conversation, late, with the new boss. He'd like for someone to pull a miracle out of their ass and fix things.

Got to bed later than planned on Friday night - 2300.

Up at 0400 to get [livejournal.com profile] mizzlaurajean and her mother to the airport, back in bed at 0600, and back up at 0700 to get the car to the dealer at 0700 for its 30,000 mile service.

There was supposed to be a loaner for me at the dealer's. It turned out that the source of the loaner (Enterprise Rent-A-Car) didn't open until 9000, so the loaner didn't appear until 0930. Which was no big deal - _ sat and read the newspaper from Thursday and Friday.

The car was done by 1300, and I picked it up around 1500. Most of the rest of the day was spent putzing around.

I intended to take a nap from 1700 to 1900. Didn't sleep well, and was awakened at 1830 by the ringing of the telephone (which I didn't answer).

Work was nothing special. I did the ad, or at least my portion of it (front main and middle main). When I'd finished most of the ad, I got thrown into helping clean up for the flow team. It's slightly perplexing - the ETL's were clearly expecting a big influx of business before Labor Day. An influx that didn't appear to happen. But the store did well Labor Day weekend, and the doing well carried over to the week following Labor Day weekend. When I was taking down the ad from Labor Day weekend, I noticed an awful lot of rain checks and bare shelves. And the truck was larger than the number of people that they'd scheduled to work flow could handle.

It was discouraging coming home Sunday morning, and realizing that the lump in the bed was just bed clothes, and not [livejournal.com profile] mizzlaurajean.

Sunday was pretty much a lost day. When I wasn't sleeping, I putzed around some more. Never left the house after I brought in the newspaper. I called [livejournal.com profile] mizzlaurajean around 1930. It sounded like they were having a good time. She made it clear that she'd be calling [livejournal.com profile] buttonlass some time on Monday to hear what the results were.

Today, the plumber arrived around 0900. By now, most of the work is done. I finally called Linksys tech support back this morning. After more futzing around, the tech decided that the router was bad, and I'd need to dig up the receipt and see if it was still under warranty. I think this is unreasonable, and I'm guessing I'll just end up buying a new wireless router (BTW, if any of the techies want to offer unsolicited advice as to the best way to configure security on the new router, I'm all ears).

I still need to get the package to [livejournal.com profile] frostfox together and in the mail. Almost all the pieces are together, so I'm hoping it happens soon...

When the plumber is finished, I'll head off to work. And after work, I hope to make it to the event that [livejournal.com profile] lollardfish is moderating tonight.
