Shopping is Hard, Let's Do Math

davidschrothWe went grocery shopping tonight after I got home from work. We'd agreed in advance that we wouldn't spend more than a certain amount, so I spent most of the time trying to keep a running tab in my head. When we had finished shopping, and went to check out, I confidently averred that the total should come to $xwz.
The total came to $xwz + $19.
Ouch. That's not even close. Apparently senility is much closer than I imagined.

mizzlaurajean took a look at the receipt when we had gotten back in the car. And as we were driving down Lake St., she pointed out that we'd been charged $22 for yogurt.
Back to the store, where we emerged with $20, and I had some of my self-confidence restored.
It's funny - with the ubiquity of scanners, I rarely look too closely at receipts any more. Even with automation, human error (key bounce, in this case) still comes through.
