As previously recorded, Polonia noticed a young bird in the common area of the condos on Saturday morning. It wasn't moving far; seemed unable to fly high enough or far enough to ensure it's safety; and did not seem to have any adult birds hanging around trying to take care of it. It appeared that the bird had been dislodged from its nest by Friday's storm. After some debate, we decided to capture the bird and take it to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
Polonia liberated a cardboard box, and punched a lot of holes in two sides of the box. She gave me the box to hold, and then captured the bird and put it in the box. At which point an amazing chorus of scolding burst out from several adult birds in nearby trees. We secured the bird in the box, and I took it to the WRC, and I expect it will recover and be released soon.
After running a bunch of errands, I returned home. When I stepped out of the car, several birds started scolding me, going so far as to "dive bomb" me as I went up the walk to the unit.
The pattern has continued since - whenever I leave or return to our condo during daylight hours, I'm accompanied by a coterie of scolding birds swooping at me.
